System Administrator
Freshview is looking for a seasoned System Administrator to join our engineering team. You'll be responsible for keeping our web applications running smoothly, and ensuring they scale with our continued growth.

Because of our growth, we're looking for a candidate that can potentially manage other system administrators as the team grows.
Key areas and responsibilities
- Continually improve the performance and scalability of our software.
- Build monitoring and alerting systems to maintain uptime as we grow.
- Buy and install hardware, buy bandwidth, and automate bringing up new systems.
- Work with application engineers to identify and fix bottlenecks in the app code.
- Troubleshoot issues with hardware, software, applications and network.
- Manage and improve automated application deployment to production systems.
- Document current and future configuration processes and policies.
- Participate in design discussions & future planning exercises.
- Participate in 24x7 on-call support.
- The ability to manage other system administrators as we continue to grow the team under you.
If you're into acronyms, here are some of the main technologies in our current environment: IIS 6/7, load balancers, NAS, SAN, high end MTA's, Active Directory, DNS, distributed in-memory caches, CDN's, AS1000 scaling appliance, SQL Server 2005, log shipping, sharding, VCS.
Qualifications
- Experience scaling web sites/applications.
- Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- Obsession about good security and reliability practices, you build systems with no single point of failure.
- Demonstrable knowledge of TCP/IP, security, HTTP, and SQL databases.
- Demonstrable scripting and programming skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
We're also a very social bunch at Freshview, so you'll need to have a fun personality with great communication skills and be prepared to accept a ping pong challenge at a moments notice.

How many hours will I be expected to work?
We have lives too. Our staff do 40 hour weeks and we're pretty flexible about your working hours. Having said that, you'll be the first port of call if things go bump in the night and it will be your responsibility to get things back on track. Of course, we're all here to help.
Where are you guys based?
Freshview is located in Sutherland, about 30 minutes south of the Sydney CBD. We're also a close walk to trains and buses, are just off the freeway and a 30 minute drive from Wollongong.
Can I telecommute?
No sorry, we're looking for someone to work closely with the rest of the team in our Sydney office. Of course, we're more than happy to relocate the right candidate.
