The Freshview annual undergrad program
The Freshview annual intern program is an awesome opportunity for two to three undergraduate computer science students looking for a summer internship in the software industry. Forget any stereotypes. You'll be given a real project to work on and get exposed to everything from coding, interface design, marketing, support and testing.
When you're not learning about software development, you might also get the chance to learn how to surf (the ocean that is), become a ping pong expert and master the local go carting circuit.
Benefits of our program
As part of the internship, you'll be working in small teams together with other software developers, test engineers and interface designers to develop commercial software used by tens of thousands of customers in more than 100 countries.
- Get mentored directly by industry experts in the Freshview team.
- A well defined 8-12 week project to focus your energy on.
- $800 weekly salary (plus free catered lunches, drinks, snacks and other outings the team takes).
- A real insight into how a successful software company works.
- The potential to become a permanent member of the team when you graduate.
What will you be working on?
While most intern programs put you in a dark corner and get you doing data entry or fixing bugs, we throw you right in the deep end. Under the guidance of our development team, you'll be writing real, shippable code for a new or upgraded feature in our applications.
Here are some sample projects previous Freshview interns have developed:
- A component allowing customers to compare multiple campaign results in a single Flash and AJAX powered report.
- An application that automatically converts externally referenced style sheets in a HTML file to inline CSS as per W3C specifications. Our customers loved this.
- A significant new feature that relied on heavily optimized queries across database tables with hundreds of millions of rows. It was very popular.
On top of this, you'll be exposed to the inner workings of a software company including marketing our software, writing documentation and even talking to customers.
"Working as a Freshview intern was an awesome opportunity! The environment was supportive, friendly and most of all lots of fun. The best part was, I had the opportunity to work on actual application features used by thousands of people worldwide and learned more about software development than I could ever learn at Uni. Plus, my ping pong game has never been better!"- Daniel Bowden, Wollongong University, Summer 2007
A little about Freshview
Since 2004, Freshview has been developing popular web applications for the design and marketing industries including Campaign Monitor and MailBuild. We've got tens of thousands of customers all over the globe and are adding 500 or so new ones every week. We sound busy (and we are), but we also work 40 hour weeks and have a fun, relaxed work environment not far from the beach.
Who should apply?
We're looking for the best and brightest, and we're a pretty fussy bunch. Does this sound like you?
- Top grades (at least a distinction average).
- Some experience with software development, the more the better. Perhaps you've already written your own apps or contributed to another project.
- In your last or second last year of a computer science or related degree.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
The program runs anywhere between 8 to 12 weeks full-time between December 2008 and March 2009, so you'll need to be available during those months to work in our Sydney office.
Applications close on Tuesday September 30, 2008 but we review them as they come in, so all available openings may be taken well before that date. If you're interested, apply now.
Any questions?
How many hours will I be working?
We have lives too. Our staff do 40 hour weeks and we're pretty flexible about your working hours.
Where are you guys based?
Freshview is located in Sutherland, about 30 minutes south of the Sydney CBD. We're also a close walk to trains and buses, are just off the freeway and a 30 minute drive from Wollongong.
