Computerworld says Freshview is worth watching

A great piece of recognition for Freshview in a recent article by Len Rust for Computerworld called "Aussies worth watching".
It's awesome to be noted as an Australian success story, but we've still got plenty of work to be getting on with, so there's hopefully more success to come. If you want to be a part of that, don't forget that we're looking to expand our team.
There's plenty of room around the lunch table for the right people, so if that's you or someone you know, get in touch.

Silicon Beach (and Freshview) gets another plug

We just came across a nice mention of Freshview in the IT Innovations section of the Australian Financial Review today. Unfortunately, we can't send you to the article because it's behind a paywall, but there was one quote in particular I wanted to mention.
...the boom in internet companies and the growth of Sydney's Silicon Beach in Cronulla are being driven by changes in the internet itself.
For those of you not familiar with Sydney geography, Cronulla is a small coastal suburb of Sydney where I live and is a few short minutes from the Freshview office. The fact that the largest financial publication in the country just labelled this area as Silicon Beach is a great moment for the Cronulla tech community, but I'm afraid we might be getting a little ahead of ourselves.
You see, I don't know of any other web-based software companies in Cronulla. Heck, none of the other company's in our building even know what it is that we actually do. I've tried to explain it, trust me. Of course, if you expand Silicon Beach to refer to Sydney in general, maybe you're getting somewhere. After just coming back from a week in Silicon Valley myself (and experiencing my first earthquake), I think I'll stick to the beach version any day.
One quick correction from the article itself. We charge 1 cent per email, not 5 cents. Also the total cost for the WWF-Australia campaign would be $55, not $555.

The future of email - an interview with SitePoint

Last Thursday and Friday, half of the Freshview team headed into Web Directions South for 2 days of web design inspiration. I was lucky enough to be invited to speak last year (check out the podcast here), and this year we went for a different approach by becoming exhibitors at the inaugural Web Directions expo.
We'd been meaning to do the trade show things for a while now, and the whole thing came together really well. I spoke to loads of current customers and met loads of new ones. You can check out a more detailed write up as well as some pictures from the day on the Campaign Monitor blog.
I was also lucky enough to catch up with Matt Magain from SitePoint - an awesome Australia-based resource for all things web design. Matt cornered me when we finally had some quiet time to ask all about Freshview, HTML email standards, the future of spam and plenty more. You can check out the full interview here.

Freshly hatched interview

Although just a few months old, the weekly entrepreneurial interview site Hatch That has already featured some fascinating chats covering a variety of industries, including a good one from Jason Calacanis.
This week, Freshview founder Dave Greiner is featured on the site. In the interview Dave covers a little of the history behind Freshview, as well as his inspirations and even some advice for new entrepreneurs. It's worth visiting, if only to check out Dave wearing a suit, a very rare occurence in the Freshview office!

The new hotness?

We may not be the new hotness, but we are at least considered Hot Innovators in today's Smart Company profile. Smart Company is "Australia’s online magazine for entrepreneurs & SMEs", a great collection of articles and resources that is well worth checking out.
Dave spoke with Emily Ross about how Freshview got started, our approach to business and a little about our immediate plans for the business. The article turned out really well, thanks to Emily for doing a good job of comprehending and explaining the nerdy bits for the Smart Company audience.

Freshview profiled in The Sydney Morning Herald

While it's not exactly front page material, Freshview received a great mention in the Business section of today's Sydney Morning Herald. The full page article discussed the uptake of Web 2.0 technologies in corporate Australia, using Freshview as an example of successfully creating a great community around our products. Here's a nice snippet...
Adopting the web 2.0 ethos has paid benefits for Freshview, a company that employs only five people and spends next to nothing on marketing. Co-founder David Greiner says the company has created a very active community, allowing it to sign up 25,000 registered customers including Apple and eBay.
A big hat tip to Campaign Monitor customer Grant Young for the kind words he had to say about our software, not to mention the massive photo he managed to sneak in. Grant had this to say about the Campaign Monitor blog and design gallery...
"Their blog has been fantastic - particularly for us when we were redeveloping our newsletter," Mr Young says. "The blog has a gallery that promotes their customers' emails, and it was a really rich way for us to get an idea about what other people were doing and how they were doing it."

Freshview and Silicon Beach

It's not every day you make the cover of the country's most prestigious financial publication, in a wetsuit no less, but that's exactly what happened to Ben and I today.
The story highlights Australia's new wave of internet companies making a place for themselves online. We've always maintained a focus on creating an enjoyable yet productive work environment, and I think the "Silicon Beach" moniker fits nicely. On top of Freshview, the article also highlights other great Aussie companies like Atlassian, Tangler and Quotify.

Young exporters of the year!

In a flashy ceremony at Sydney Town Hall on Thursday night, we were honored to be named the NSW Young Exporters of the Year. At 27 and 28, we figured we were starting to get old in the industry, so it's nice to have the young label back. Here's the skinny on the award itself:
For outstanding export achievement by individuals aged thirty five years or under, in any industry sector, for the export of goods or services.
It almost feels like we're cheating considering we're pushing one's and zero's though a pipe instead of actually shipping a tangible product overseas, but hey, we'll take what we can get. It's definitely great to have the hard work we've been putting in the last few years recognized locally.
